Teaching Bio

It was at NYU that Toback first began studying with Pilates’ Protégé and Master Teacher Kathleen Stanford Grant.  Certified twice through the Physical Mind Institute in Santa Fe, Toback has also practiced all types of Yoga intensively over the years, culminating with certification from the Kundalini Yoga Research Instuitute (KRI) in 1999 & 2001. She has taught for Fran Lehan at Groundfloor Studio in Manhattan, as well as many NYC gyms and spas including The Peninsula Spa, The Away Spa, Bliss Spa, Crunch, David Barton Gym, Equinnox Reebok Sports Club NY, Clay Nyc, Nimble Fitness and Body Balance in Sag Harbor, NY.  She has taught Yoga at all the afore listed gyms as well as Laughing Lotus Yoga Center, Kundalini Yoga East and The Stable Yoga in Brooklyn, NY.   She has also taught privately in people’s homes a combination of bodywork, Yoga, Pilates and personal training since 1995.

Jordana, who hails from Los Angeles, California, began her choreographic tutelage as a teenager under the guidance of the modern dance legend, Bella Lewitzky, and spent several years after college touring internationally with the Mark Morris Dance Group.   In 2001 Toback met Healer Levent Bouloukbasi and attended his IM School for Healing Arts for 4 years graduating with a NY State Minister’s License and continuing through the next 4 years to assist the teachers at the school.   Working with these sophisticated mentors over the years helped to mold Toback into a versatile movement teacher. Her vast performing experience flavors how she teaches dance to dancers, actors and musicians alike.  She has taught dance at NYU both The Classical Studio and Playwrights Horizons, at the Mark Morris Dance Group School in Brooklyn, NY and at the Idyllwild School of Music And The Arts in California.

“As a professional touring dancer, I have gained a thorough knowledge of the body that is beyond a list of credentials. Because I understand implicitly the power of this knowledge, I can offer my students the opportunity to experience their own bodies in a similar fashion, whether they are a professional dancer, training to be a professional dancer or none of the above.  It is through this exquisite experience of ourselves and our bodies that we can perform great feats on stage, heal physical pain, melt away limitations and enjoy all aspects of our lives more fully. “
