CATTYWAMPUS (2011)

Using the characters and dramatic action of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie as a leaping point, playwright/director Robert Cucuzza strips the revolutionary classic play down to its impulsive core, sets it in modern-day Appalachia and reconstitutes its essence to give new illumination to The American Dream—a myth that, within the last three years, has been shattered beyond repair.
Directed by Robert Cucuzza
Music by Juli Crockett
Written by Robert Cucuzza based on Miss Julie by August Strindberg

Hamlet (2009)

Louis Scheeder, the Dean of Tisch School of The Arts at NYU is also the head of the Classical Studio in the Drama Department. Scheeder directs a play every semester and often they hire a choreographer (me) to set some sort of dance within the Shakespeare play they are setting. In Hamlet, the play-within-a-play that Hamlet creates to prove the king (his uncle) has murdered his father is usually mimed . I choreographed a ballet for the cast instead. It was high drama ballet at its best.
Directed by Louis Scheeder
Written by William Shakespeare
Music by Nancy Magarill

Romeo and Juliet (1999)

Set in and throughout a stunning mid town gothic NY Church, this production of Romeo and Juliet was directed by a Royal Shakespeare Company actor who worked for years with Kenneth Branagh. We were all ecstatic to be a part of a Romeo & Juliet that spared no expense to be elegant, rich and evocative. We re-created actual renaissance dances for the ball scene where Romeo falls in love with Juliet. A Pavane was created for the entrance, a Galliard for Juliet to catch the attention of Romeo and a Courante for Romeo to show off with a few courtly jumps. Lastly, an Allemande was choreographed specifically for the section where the two lovers first interact and Juliet says “…palm to palm is holy palmer’s kiss…” while they dance palm to palm.
Directed by Michael Maloney, RSC
Written by William Shakespeare
w/ Traditional period court music
